David Afkham returns to the Orquesta y Coro Nacional de España, where he is Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, for three exciting performances of Robert Schumann’s epic secular oratorio, Scenes from Goethe’s Faust, on June 13, 14, and 15

Written between 1844 and 1853, this ambitious three-part work is scored for SATB chorus, boys’ chorus, orchestra, and many vocal solo parts, requiring a large number of soloists. Rather than setting the entire Faust drama to music, Schumann selected a series of scenes from Goethe’s play that reflect the spiritual and philosophical depth of the text.

Joining Afkham and the orchestra and choir will be the Little Singers of the ORCAM, alongside soloists José Antonio López, Alastair Miles, Nikola Hillebrand, Mari Eriksmoen, David Steffens, Jeremy Ovenden, Paula Murrihy, Maite Beaumont, Xabier Pascual, Diego Blázquez, Francesca Calero, Margarita Rodríguez, and Patricia González Arroyo.
