Falla in Madrid; Beethoven and Brahms in Lucerne
To mark the 150th anniversary of his birth and the 80th anniversary of his death, on April 24, 25 and 26, David Afkham conducts some of Falla’s lesser-known compositions, leading the OCNE in La Fantasía bætica in a new orchestration by Francisco Coll, and the suite Homenajes. The programme is completed by two key works of 20th-century Spanish music, both of which are evocations of flamenco and Andalusian music: Noches en los jardines de España and El amor brujo. The soloists are pianist Bertrand Chamayou and cantaora María Toledo.
A few days later, on April 29 and 30, and on May 2, he performs with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, treating the audience to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with pianist Bruce Liu, and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1.
