Elektra at the Deutsche Oper

On February 21 and 27, David Afkham returns to the pit of Berlin’s Deutsche Oper to conduct Richard Strauss’ one-act tragedy, Elektra. Catherine Foster sings the title role, Karita Mattila is Klytämnestra, Flurina Stucki is Chrysothemis, Burkhard Ulrich is Aegisth and Tobias Kehrer is Orest.

The production by Kirsten Harms aims to focus the audience’s attention on the state of horror vacui in which people exist, on blurring the lines between passion and obsession and the layered grief that the characters go through.
