On October 3 and 5, David Afkham leads two concert performances of Alban Berg’s Wozzeck at the Sala Sinfónica in Madrid.

Premiered in Berlin in 1925, more than a social drama or an anti-war statement, Wozzeck is a descent into the abyss of the human condition, captured in a score in which the echoes of a centuries-old musical tradition resound, distorted and disfigured. This major work of 20th-century opera will open the thematic series The World of Yesterday, inspired by Stefan Zweig’s work of the same name, as a reflection of a time that, without knowing it, was teetering on the brink of its own precipice.

Martin Winkler incarnates the title role, Lise Lindström stars as Marie, Rodrigo Garull as Tambor Major, Tansel Akzeybek as Andres, Jürgen Sacher as Captain, Stephen Milling as Doctor, Solgerd Isalv as Margret.
