Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5 at Orquestra y Coro Nacional de España

On November 22, 23, and 24, David Afkham returns to the Orquestra y Coro Nacional de España, where he is Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, for Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5. One of the composer’s most deeply spiritual works, Bruckner draws on the sacred music of J.S. Bach, creating complex polyphonic textures that echo Bach’s famous fugues. Though Bruckner never heard Symphony No. 5 performed live, it has become one of his most revered artistic achievements.
