This week, David Afkham makes his subscription debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a program of Shostakovich’s Symphony No.10 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1, with soloist Emanuel Ax.

David has had a busy start to the season; following two weeks in Madrid with the Spanish National Orchestra he travelled with them to Mexico for concerts in Mexico City and at the Cervantino Festival. From Chicago, he goes directly to Germany to conduct the same programme, this time with the Munich Philharmonic with Radu Lupo at the piano.

In an interview on the CSO Sounds & Stories website, David said, “This is one of the leading orchestras of the world … I know the orchestra from some years ago when I was an assistant to Bernard Haitink. This is something very special to come back.” Read the full interview here.

David’s performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra take place on 20, 21 and 22 October. Find out more hereShare Article
