David Afkham kicks off 2016 in Madrid, back at the helm of the Spanish National Orchestra. He conducts two semi-staged performances of Wagner’s ‘Der fliegende Holländer’, with Bryn Terfel in the title role, and featuring Peter Rose as Daland and Ricarda Merbeth as Senta. Already a sought after symphonic conductor, David made his opera debut at Glyndebourne in 2015 with ‘Traviata’. Future plans include ‘Bomarzo’ at the Teatro Royal Madrid.

Peter Rose is currently one of the leading exponents of the role of Daland; having already performed the role at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin earlier in the season, he will feature in the Bayerische Staatsoper production in March 2016 and will make his debut at the Bayreuth Festival in the role this summer.

Performances are on 15 and 17 January 2016. Find out more on the Spanish National Orchestra’s website.
