We are delighted to announce that David Afkham has been appointed Principal Conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra, effective from September 2015.  David remained in Madrid for this morning’s press conference following his performances with the Orchestra over the past 2 weeks which included Bruckner Symphonies 4 and 7. David has worked frequently with the Orchestra since his first visit in 2011 and will appear with them a further three times as Principal Conductor Designate in 2013/14 before taking up his full position when he will spend at least 8 weeks per season with the Orchestra. David’s busy 2012/13 season continues with further performances in Spain, this time with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León; followed by a concert with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra.  Over the summer he will make his New York debut at the Mostly Mozart Festival, conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl and appear at the Blossom Festival with the Cleveland Orchestra.
