Summer concerts in London and Spain

On July 19, David Afkham leads the Orquesta Nacional de España at the BBC Proms, with a program that features Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, de Falla’s Fantasía bætica, Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with guitarist Rafael Aguirre. After the intermission, they will play de Falla’s El sombrero de tres picos’s Suites No. 1 and 2, and Ravel’s Boléro.

He will then conduct two performances of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte on August 3 and 5 at the Escuela de Música Reina Sofía in Santander. The production by Rolando Villazón features a cast of stars, with Javier Camarena as Tamino, Emily Pogorelc as Pamina, Kathryn Lewek as the Queen of the Night, Franz-Josef Selig as Sarastro, and Theodore Platt as Papageno.
