This week, David Afkham makes his debut performance conducting Bach’s St Matthew Passionwith the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España following highly successful projects to critical acclaim of other semi-staged opera’s including Elektra(2017), and The Flying Dutchman (2016).

Highlights as a symphonic guest conductor include debuts with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and returns to the Chicago Symphony, NHK Symphony, Swedish Radio Symphony, Münchner Philharmoniker, Danish National Symphony, Wiener Symphoniker (Musikverein, Bregenz Festival), Oslo Philharmonic, Orchestra of Accademia Santa Cecilia and HR Sinfonie Orchester Frankfurt. Future opera projects include Hansel & Gretel (Frankfurt Opera), Fliegende Holländer (Stuttgart Opera, Tokyo Opera Nomori Festival) and Rusalka (Theater an der Wien).
